Serenity is now offering NeuroStar TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy), a non-drug treatment for Major Depressive Disorder and (OCD) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
What is NeuroStar®?
NeuroStar TMS is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy, a non-drug treatment for major depression. TMS uses focused magnetic pulses, similar to an MRI, to reignite dormant synapses in the brain and help your brain function the way it was meant to. (References>)
It is not a drug, “shock” therapy, or surgery. It is a safe, effective treatment for MDD without the common side effects of medication.
How Does it Work?
NeuroStar is a noninvasive, outpatient treatment that takes as little as 19 minutes per day. During each session, a cushioned coil is precisely placed against your head while magnetic pulses deliver the therapy to the correct location that regulates mood in your brain. In a study of “real-world” outcomes (meaning actual NeuroStar patients), 83% of people who completed the full NeuroStar treatment cycle experienced a measurable decrease in the severity of their depression, and 62% of those completing treatment saw full remission – meaning their depression effectively “went away.”

Does NeuroStar Hurt?
NeuroStar is not a drug, “shock” therapy, or surgery. And it doesn’t have any of the common side effects associated with traditional antidepressants.
There is no sedation, anesthesia, or recovery time and for most people the NeuroStar treatment is relaxing. The most common side effect is mild to moderate pain or discomfort at the treatment site that usually subsides within the first week of treatment.
