Serenity’s Second Thanksgiving Greeting

Life is amazing
AND THEN IT'S AWFUL. AND THEN IT'S
AMAZING AGAIN. AND IN BETWEEN THE
AMAZING AND AWFUL IT'S ORDINARY
AND MUNDANE AND ROUTINE. BREATHE
IN THE AMAZING. HOLD ON THROUGH
THE AWFUL, AND RELAX AND EXHALE
DURING THE ORDINARY. THAT'S JUST
LIVING HEARTBREAKING. SOUL-HEALING.
AMAZING, AWFUL,
ORDINARY LIFE.
AND IT'S BREATHTAKINGLY
Beautiful

-L.R. KNOST

It is hard to believe we are composing Serenity’s second Thanksgiving greeting as we approach the end of the year of 2022. The word “Gratitude” unfortunately has kind of become overused in pop-culture lately as it is thrown around #BeGrateful... And so I’m going to attempt to pull away from the trendiness of gratitude and bring us all back to reflect on what it really means. I love this quote because it is so true:

I’m sure you all can relate to having some resilient people in your life that completely overwhelm you with their capacity for gratitude. They have maybe been through some of the worst things imagined in life, but somehow they are still able to be thankful for what they have. Gratitude truly is a gift. As we know, our brains are pre-programmed to keep us safe through natural selection and fight or flight and to focus on the negative. We have to practice and train our brain to continue to see the positive and those that can do it, really do experience more joy.

So as we at Serenity reflect over the last year, there are so many things about our new clinic and our new team of people that we are grateful for. We are thankful for the completion of our new building, a beautiful space that we all can utilize together to communicate, collaborate, and serve our clients. We are thankful for all of the crazy parts of building something new coming together from our floors to our ceilings to our heat and our music. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the team we have developed over the last year. It truly is remarkable the amount of talent that we have under our roof. From our providers that work with the little people of the world, playing with them, showing them kindness and patience and helping them navigate difficult times and emotions, to those of you that work with the very ill or the very old… Our jobs take a lot of inner strength, compassion, resilience, and energy and a special type of caring that not everyone possesses. We are grateful for all of you, your time that you commit to your clients and to Serenity and to shaping other’s lives in a positive way.

To our clients, we are so incredibly grateful for all of you and for your support of our clinic! We admire your strength and courage to work through life’s challenges. We are honored that you have chosen Serenity and our providers to walk alongside you on your journey. We look forward to continuing to serve you with the utmost of quality care that you deserve.

Life is messy, complicated, and keeps us working at finding Gratitude. May we all take some moments to breathe in the Gratitude this November. We are truly thankful for you!
