What is NeuroStar TMS and is it Safe for Teens?
NeuroStar is a device and treatment system that uses transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to treat depression and other mental health conditions. It is a non-drug, non-invasive treatment option that involves using magnetic pulses to stimulate the area of the brain most associated with depression.
What is TMS?
NeuroStar is a TMS system developed by Neuronetics, Inc.
It is an FDA-cleared treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adults and adolescents.
It can also be used to treat anxious depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
NeuroStar is a non-drug, non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate brain areas involved in mood regulation.
How it works:
During a NeuroStar treatment, a cushioned coil is placed on the patient's head.
Magnetic pulses are delivered to the targeted area of the brain.
These pulses stimulate the brain cells, helping to normalize brain activity and reduce depression symptoms.
The treatment is performed as an outpatient procedure and lasts for a few minutes.
